6 cups of rigitoni or something similar but with ridges 1 pound of extra lean ground beef (drain fat) Cook pasta and Ground beef and Drain both 6-8 small cans of plain Tomato sauce 1-2 packets of spagetti sauce mix Add tomato sauce to a large skillet or pan and add spagetti sauce mix cook for a little while on med-low heat so it doesn't bubble up and hurt you. Add ground beef. Add: A small tub of Ricotta Cheese and stir until cheese is melted and is blended will. It should have a paler look about it. After this you'll want to layer it in a baking dish. A small (4-6 cups) package of shredded Mozzarella Layer it like so: pasta, sauce, cheese You should come out with about three layers. If there is room for more by all means. You may also have a few ingredients left over, you may do what you like with these. I always seem to have a little sauce left myself. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10 to 20 minutes, just to melt the cheese, then serve with garlic bread, on a plate of in a bowl, I find a bowl to be easier. Mon, Dec. 21st, 2009, 09:33 pm

You can make this flavorful soup that tastes just like the Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana Soup. Potatoes, Italian sausage, kale, onions, and cream make for a flavorful soup. This is my personal recipe for this. You may wish to add about a half teaspoon of fennel to this for an added taste. 1 lb. Italian Sausage 2 large Russet Baking Potatoes sliced in half, and then in 1/4 inch slices 1 large Onion, chopped 1/2 can. Oscar Meyer Real Bacon Bits (these are less fatty than real bacon) 2 cloves garlic minced 2 C. Kale or Swiss chard chopped 2 cans Chicken Broth 1 qt. Water 1 C. Heavy Whipping Cream Cook sausage in a 300-degree oven. Bake approximately 1/2 hour, drain on paper towels and cut into slices. Place onions, potatoes, chicken broth, water, garlic in pot, and cook on medium heat until potatoes are done. Add sausage, bacon, salt, and pepper to taste, and simmer for another 10 minutes. Turn to low heat, add kale and cream. Heat through and serve I ADDED JUST A LITTLE LESS KALE COOKED THE SAUSAGE FOR ABOUT 40 MINUTES AND ADDED HOT ITALIAN SAUSAGE INSTEAD OF MILD FOR A LITTLE KICK. I'D SAY IT SERVES AROUND 8 WITH A LITTLE TO SPARE. Mon, Dec. 21st, 2009, 03:59 pm

Hey, My name's Lola and I'm currently in my first year of university doing a double major in Polisci and Modern Language. My main hobbies include scaring men off either by ranting about Marxism, or by drunkenly yelling: "Fuck the patriarchy!". I enjoy cheap bottles of vodka a little too much maybe. I spend a lot of my spare time either on the internet, at the gym, harassing my unwilling friends or sleeping. I'm usually game for all sorts of nonsense. I'm a bit of a language nut. I've been obsessed with studying foreign languages since I was four and got the wacky idea in my head that I may, someday, meet my soulmate but we won't be able to communicated because of the language barrier. So far the list includes German, French, Japanese, Russian and Spanish (all of varying degrees of fluency, but all have been studied formally in a school). I can be a little boy crazy at times. I prefer the term boylimic. My inner patriarchy-hating feminist despises that side of me. All I really want to do in life is live (with a reasonably steady income from a reasonably prestigious job). I'd love to help out in the form of a gift, but I'm not as flush as I'd like to be either, otherwise I'd just go to the grocery store and purchase a gift card. What I'd really like to do is put together a "meal in a box" for them. Once upon a time, my brother gave me a "romantic dinner for two" package that contained a box of spaghetti noodles, a jar of good-quality tomato sauce, a small container of parmesan cheese, a sample-size bottle of white wine, and a tablecloth and two plastic wine glasses from the dollar store. He assembled it himself in a gift-basket format. I loved it because it was cute, had everything I needed to make a meal, and it literally cost him less than ten dollars. I'd like to put something like this together for my friend, but not the pasta and tomato sauce since, well, I think they're eating plenty of that already. What I'm looking for are suggestions for recipes that wouldn't require refrigerated ingredients, or would only require inexpensive add-ins that people generally have on hand (margarine, milk, eggs, etc). I'm open to casseroles, crock pot meals, stews, etc! I'm also going to pick up a big bag of lentils or pulses from the bulk store and share my favourite curry recipes with my friend - great protein! Thanks in advance! Mon, Dec. 21st, 2009, 12:07 pm

I've been running empty of ideas for dinner, and I need something to add a bit of diversity to my meal plans. Lately it's been bean salads, but I'm looking for something a bit more adventurous. Any suggestions? |
